About Us

Why we started Athletic Foundations

AF started with a question. Actually, it started with a bunch of questions we began to receive from our friends when their children joined competitive sports teams: What should Peter drink before a game? What should Lily eat after practice? How many meals should Billy have during a triple-game tournament day?

As sports dietitians and exercise physiologists who have worked with Olympians and athletes in the NFL, NBA, NCAA, USTA, and other professional organizations, we have been answering these types of questions for a long time. So, when our friends started asking, we were happy to offer our best advice. When the inquiries kept coming, we realized: There must be a lot more questions out there.

We created Athletic Foundations to give developing athletes—and their parents—the answers they need. Our only mission is to empower athletes to live and perform at their best. We hope you’ll join us.

Meet The Founders

Tiffany Chag, MS, RD, CSCS, CPT

As a registered dietitian nutritionist and personal trainer with a focus on optimizing sports performance, Tiffany has been fortunate to work with a diverse group of clients ranging from youth and professional athletes to octogenarians and post-partum moms. She is constantly amazed by the body’s capacity to evolve and improve. A former Division 1 soccer player, Tiffany knows firsthand the payoffs of consistent hard work. She also knows that optimal performance and a healthy lifestyle are achievable with the right kind of support.

Tiffany is currently based just outside Boston where she runs a private nutrition and training company. She has also worked as an exercise physiologist and dietitian in the Sports Performance Center at the top-ranked Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC, and as the dietitian at TB12, where she revamped the company’s nutrition philosophy to be more evidence-based.

She completed her master’s degree in exercise physiology and nutrition from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics board-certified registered dietitian, a National Strength and Conditioning Association certified strength and conditioning specialist, and a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer.

Tiffany still loves putting her body to the test and has completed several marathons, triathlons, and uncomfortably long bike rides, including to raise money for cancer research. Her favorite exercise is the pull-up.

Jason Machowsky, MS, RD, CSSD, CSCS, CEP

After starting his career as an engineer and IT consultant, Jason switched gears in his mid-twenties to follow his passion for movement and nutrition. He returned to school; completed his master’s degree in exercise physiology and nutrition from Teachers College, Columbia University; and, since then, has provided nutrition and training guidance to individuals of all ages and experience levels, people who are healthy and injured, and participants in nearly every conceivable sport and recreational activity. He serves our nation’s athletes as a member of the United States Olympic Committee Sports Dietitian Registry and has provided sports nutrition services for two Division 1 NCAA schools.

Jason is currently based in the New York City area and runs his own private nutrition and training company. He has also worked as an exercise physiologist and sports dietitian in the Sports Performance Center at the top-ranked Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC and was the instructor of the Sports Nutrition Practicum at Teachers College, Columbia University.

Jason is an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics board-certified registered dietitian and certified specialist in sports dietetics, a National Strength and Conditioning Association certified strength and conditioning specialist, and an American College of Sports Medicine clinical exercise physiologist.

Today, Jason’s fitness routine includes trying to get back to lifting heavy things like he did in his 20’s; maintaining endurance through chasing his kids everywhere; and daydreaming about getting back to tennis, playing the guitar, and cooking for fun when he no longer has to chase his kids everywhere.
